Whereas,
if you declared an emergency, they could have the fire trucks strung
out down the runway, and a helicopter hovering, and maybe get the
fire out before it even gets lit.
It's only a matter of seconds for you to go from
a flash burn, like a sunburn, to a second, third, or fatal degree
of burn.
So as they say in the Navy, when in
doubt, call them out.
But if you declare an emergency, don't feel that
you have to crash. The crews don't mind a dry run and enjoy racing
down the runway with lights flashing and sirens screeching and they
would rather stop the fire from starting.
